A mass of beautiful blue hydrangeas, planted together in a textured silver bowl to create one wonderfully full arrangement.

There is something quite extraordinary about blue hydrangeas. The colour moves naturally from powder blue and cornflower through to deeper almost violet tones, with occasional touches of fresh green. We deliberately keep the design simple and let the hydrangeas do all the work.

Several plants are grouped closely together to give the arrangement its generous, established appearance, with the foliage left naturally around the flowers rather than overly manicured. The textured silver container gives it a more contemporary finish and makes it particularly lovely in a London home, reception, hotel or office.

It also makes a fabulous alternative to a traditional bouquet. Hydrangeas have real presence, and with the right care this is something the recipient can enjoy considerably longer than cut flowers.

Each arrangement is prepared by our London florists using the best hydrangeas available that week, so the exact shades of blue and the size and maturity of the flower heads will naturally vary a little. That’s rather the point — no two will ever be exactly the same.

Care

Hydrangeas absolutely love water, so don’t allow the compost to dry out. Keep it consistently moist and position the arrangement somewhere with plenty of natural light but away from strong direct sunshine and radiators.

If the flowers begin to look a little tired, check the compost first — they’re surprisingly dramatic when they’re thirsty and often recover beautifully after a good drink.
